Prepare the classroom for learning.

Set up the environment so that children can access materials as independently as age-appropriate. Label shelves with picture and words, including other languages as represented in the classroom.
Rotate learning center materials to align with children's interests and the classroom studies.

Maintain inventories of materials, equipment, or products.

Requisition and stock teaching materials and supplies.
Organized the classroom storages areas, so materials are stored neatly and easily accessed.

Scaffold children's development and learning using the classroom and playground as learning environments.

Instruct and monitor students in the use and care of equipment and materials to maximize learning and prevent injuries and damage.
Observe students' performance, record relevant data to assess progress, and plan activities/experiences to stretch children's knowledge/skills (zone of proximal development).
Organize and supervise games and other recreational activities to promote physical, mental, and social development.

Maintain children's records.

Record health and behavioral incidents using appropriate recordkeeping forms.
Take class attendance and record meal counts.

Develop and implement individualized learning activities and lesson plans.

Plan, prepare, and develop various teaching aids, such Morning Messages, charts for comparing/contrasting information, flannel board stories, and materials for classroom studies.
Prepare lesson materials, bulletin board displays, and learning area materials. Select appropriate books to align with children's interests and the classroom studies.
Implement Alternative Intervention Strategies (AIS) for children. Plan specific experiences or activities for children with Individualized Education Plans (IEP).

Supervise children's activities.

Utilize active supervision while caring for children in classrooms, playgrounds, and on outings/field trips.
Utilize active supervision strategies of "environment set-up," "zoning," "scan & count," "listening," "anticipating children's behavior," and "engage and redirect."
Reflect on experiences to strengthen active supervision skills.
Supervise and act as a "meal model" during breakfast/lunch/snack, ensuring safety while encouraging healthy eating habits.
Assist in bus loading and unloading.

Build relationships with families.

Participate in planning and executing Family Night activities and other parent engagement opportunities.
Utilize multiple opportunities (home visits, parent-teacher conferences, daily hellos & goodbyes) to build and maintain positive relationships with families.

Ensure clean and safe facilities or work areas.

Clean classrooms. Use a health & safety checklist to monitor indoor and outdoor environments for hazards.
Request maintenance as needed to ensure safe and healthy facilities.

Collaborate with colleagues to support children and their families.

Discuss assigned duties with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional efforts.
Participate in center staff meetings to share information with the classroom team.
Assist in supporting family goals and developing "at-home" activities (In-Kind) to strengthen the home-school connection and strengthen families' knowledge of child development.

Discuss children's progress with families.

Participate in home visits and teacher-parent conferences to support children's progress and/or help resolve concerns.

Display children's work.

Organize and label materials and display children's work at their eye level.

Develop and document lesson plans.

Prepare lesson plans in assigned interest areas and for target/primary care children and share with Lead Teacher for review.

Utilize the Conscious Discipline Powers for conscious adults to model and promote self-regulation and resiliency.
Utilize the Conscious Discipline Skills to transform discipline issues into teachable moments that help children strengthen communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.

Evaluate children's progress across developmental domains.

Observe and record children's progress across developmental domains.
Enter observations into Teaching Strategies GOLD assessment system.
Review data and assess children's progress at checkpoints. Prepare assessment information to share with families at home visits/parent-teacher conferences.

Teach daily living skills or behaviors.

Foster children's independence and interdependence by teaching children how to access, care for, and clean up materials.
Teach children proper health and hygiene behaviors including toothbrushing, blowing their nose in a tissue, and handwashing to minimize the spread of illness.
Help children learn to set their own place at the table for meals, serve themselves foods, pour their milk, and clean up after themselves after meals.
Assist children in learning to manage clothing (zippers, buttons, snaps, hook & loop tape, etc.) to foster age- and development-appropriate personal care skills.
