This training will teach direct support professionals about different forms of communication and how to communicate with individuals in the DD/ID community.
General Characteristics
Learn about the general characteristics and needs of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Daily Living Assistance
Learn the responsibilities involved with becoming a caregiver and how to cue, coach and assist clients with various tasks and activities of daily living.
Person Centered Planning
Learn to develop a plan that is focused on an individual’s welfare and allowing the individual to have say in their goals and aspirations.
Counseling
Learn how to utilize empathy interviewing techniques, strength-based assessment approaches and client-centered approaches to establish positive relationships.
Adaptive Equipment and Wheelchair Safety
Learn about adaptive equipment and how adaptive equipment can be used to help individuals being served. Learn the basics of operating a wheelchair, as well as safety tips to ensure that individuals are not hurt.
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
Learners will be introduced to ASD, a neurological development disorder that can affect all racial, ethnic and socioeconomic groups. This course includes information on the various interventions and supports that address the needs of, and improve the quality of life, of the individuals supported.
Accident Prevention
Focus on various ways to prevent common accidents, as well as what to do if and when an accident does occur. From fire safety to preparing an effective emergency disaster plan, it’s best to be prepared for anything and everything. We will discuss a variety of topics, including basic first aid, safe lifting and fall prevention.
Basic Nutrition and Food Safety
Teaches the importance of good nutrition and tips for healthy eating. Students will learn what foodborne illness is, how it is contracted and steps to prevent it.
Diabetes
This course details the different types of diabetes, as well as the treatment and prevention of diabetes.
Dysphagia
This course will outline the different specialized diets for individuals with choking problems, as well as cover the physical and environmental considerations that can minimize the chances of a choking incident.
Eating Disorders
This course offers valuable information about the different types of eating disorders and gives some valuable insight on how to work with people who suffer from eating disorders
Anxiety Disorders
Learn about different types of anxiety disorders and the symptoms associated with each. We will also discuss possible causes and treatment options.

Embracing Diversity – Cultural Competency
Explores the ideas behind diversity, the benefits of a culturally diverse workplace, and why it can be difficult to implement diversity initiatives.
Safe Lifting
This course teaches safe and proper lifting techniques that direct support professionals should practice every day.
Communicable Diseases
This training will detail the different types of communicable diseases, how they can be prevented, and how to respond when someone is diagnosed with a communicable disease.
Influenza Control and Treatment
This course explains the flu virus and how it spreads, symptoms, treatment, prevention, and tips for staying healthy.
COVID Screening and Procedures
This course explains the screening and quarantine requirements to help prevent the spread of COVID.
HIPAA
Learn ways to protect patient information and the consequences for failing to protect confidential information.
Human Rights, Dignity and Respect
Provides an understanding of what rights people with developmental and intellectual disabilities have and the caregiver role in supporting those rights. This course will also look at abuse, neglect and exploitation and what is expected of the caregiver if any of those things occur.
Workplace Violence
Increases awareness of situations when violence may occur and how caregivers can prevent those situations from occurring.
Preventing Sexual Abuse
Learn about the prevalence and the effects of sexual abuse on individuals with disabilities.
Seizure Control
This course teaches the basics of seizure disorders and how to respond if a person has a seizure.
Self-harm Identification and Treatment
Learn how to identify self-harm and how to help someone who engages in self-injurious behavior.
First Aid
Covers basic first aid for minor injuries and first aid protocols to follow until emergency assistance arrives.
